When Your Own App Needs an Expert

Have you ever started a repair only to reach a point where you needed an expert after all?
How did you feel asking for help? Like a clown? 🤡 And how much did they rub it in?
Fortunately, every now and then you meet someone who treats you with respect. They don't laugh at you. They might tell you a story about one of their own failed attempts and then say, “You've already done this part well. These are the few things that still need doing.”
We're heading toward a similar situation with software. It will be increasingly tempting to start building your own app. With AI, you can quickly make something that shows others what you need. And you know your problem better than anyone from outside.
But you may reach the limits of what you can do yourself: security, reliable operation, or further development. At that point you need a partner, not someone who mocks you.
Building something yourself does not mean an expert has to throw it away and start from scratch.
At the same time, it would be dishonest to promise that everything can be reused without changes. A sensible first step is to look together at what the app does, how it was built, what data it handles, and who will depend on it. Only then can you decide what is safe to keep, what to repair, and what would be better built again. Even a part that cannot be reused directly can be a valuable description of what you actually need.
If that's where you are now, let's talk. I won't make fun of you for starting on your own. We'll look at what you've built and suggest a next step that makes sense technically and for your day-to-day operations.
What has your experience been when handing unfinished work over to an expert? Did they take it on respectfully, or did they first explain everything you'd done wrong? 🙂
